Person Centred Care - joint presentation to Physiotherapy students

On 22 November 2021 physiotherapist Matthew Low and I talked with AECC University College’s Physiotherapy students about Person Centred Care.

We worked together to integrate physiotherapy theoretical and practical knowledge and skills with the lived experience of a physiotherapy patient.

A powerful combination!

SPaCE - Sharing Patient and Community Experience

Supporting the development of, and proud member of, the AECC University College’s Sharing Patient and Community Experience (SPaCE) group.

SPaCE is being developed to facilitate patients, carers, clinicians and educationalists to work together to ensure outstanding person-centred care is provided to patients in our local Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole community, and first-class education is given to AECC’s healthcare students.

With the aim of true co-production, collegiality and empowerment, SPaCE promises to be a multi-disciplinary group, in it’s widest possible meaning, which positively supports the improvement of healthcare, not only in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, but across the UK.

New AECC MSc Occupational Therapy course

Providing lived experience input, as part of AECC’s SPaCE, to the development of, and HCPC registration of, this new and innovative pre-registration MSc Occupational Therapy course.

The course has a strong patient-centred approach, and is being designed to teach students to empower people, who for reasons of ill-health, disability, trauma or adverse social circumstances, face barriers and challenges which prevent them from undertaking the activities (or occupations) that matter to them.  So important!
